There are 261 rooms at Salmond. Each room is centrally heated and furnished with a king-single bed. All rooms are double-glazed and boast a large window to give a light-filled space, and many rooms have a pleasant garden outlook. Each room has Wi-Fi access to the University of Otago network. Each floor has shared bathroom and kitchen facilities containing an electric jug, toaster, a mini fridge and microwave. Fulton 3 floor is exclusively reserved for female only/alcohol free residents, and there are other areas of the college which may be alcohol free as required.
Each floor has akitchenette equipped with a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster.
The Main Common Room is equipped with a pool table, air hockey table and tennis table. It is available for all residents and their guests.
The Sky TV Room is equipped with a television (SKYTV with over 50 channels) which projects onto the big screen.
The 'Dungeon' is a small room off the dining room, and has a TV, vending machines and a coffee machine which runs 24 hours.
The exercise room adjoins the grassed quad and has a range of equipment for residents to use, including fitness machines and space for aerobic activities.
Alongside the residents' car park, a Tennis Court and Basketball hoop are available for Salmond and Knox College residents. Tennis racquets and balls are available from the duty RL.
The Waddell Chapel is the centrepiece of the spiritual life of Salmond College. The special Christian Character of the College is expressed through the Chapel and Christian groups or groups exploring faith are welcome to use the space. Services run in the Chapel at times during the year. Residents are welcome to use the Chapel for a place of contemplation, music practices, and groups may use the Chapel as a place to run a discussion group. At times, groups from the wider North Dunedin community use the Chapel.
Wireless internet is available throughout the College. There is a computer room on the ground floor of the Macalister Wing available to residents.
Study spaces and Library: There are three rooms set up as tutorial rooms and group work rooms during term for resident use. The library may also be used as a study area. The library has a small collection of fiction and non-fiction books.
The Salmond College grounds run from Lindsay Creek to Knox College. A volleyball net is often put up on the front lawn in suitable weather, and residents are encouraged to use the space for sensible outdoor activities.
Music: Pianos located in the Dining Room and Nithvale Lounge are available for residents. There is also a baby grand piano in the Waddell Chapel. Other musical instruments should be used primarily in the Chapel.
Laundry: Washing machines and dryers are available for residents in the laundry, located past the Gray wing. There is a separate laundry for Library Wing and Macalister Wing residents.
